Create a child theme

Customize Marketplace theme files when using Sprocket Rocket without the app.

This guide is for using a Sprocket Rocket Marketplace theme without the app. A child theme lets you customize the locked theme's source files while retaining its parent relationship. Editing page content or the theme's available settings does not require one.

Child themes are neither required nor recommended for app-managed installations. Use the app's Module Builder, Files, and backup and rollback tools instead. This also applies when your app license came from a Marketplace purchase.

Create a child theme in HubSpot

  1. In HubSpot, open Design Manager.
  2. Find the Sprocket Rocket theme under @marketplace.
  3. Right-click the theme and select Create child theme.
  4. Name the child theme, choose its location, and create it.

The child theme inherits files from the parent. To change a parent file, clone it into the same relative path in the child theme and edit the clone. That clone overrides the parent copy and must be maintained separately when the parent changes.

If you later connect to the app, you can adopt the child theme so Page Builder and Sprocket Rocket AI work on its pages: open the portal, select Add theme, and choose A theme already in HubSpot. Module Builder is not available on a child theme, and backups include only the files stored in the child theme. A new app installation is a separate theme, and your child theme's customizations do not transfer to it. Follow Move a site to the app's theme to prepare the new theme and move pages.
